Rabbi Steve Fisch
Rabbi Steve Fisch is honored to serve Congregation Adat Chaverim as our interim Rabbi
during 2022-2023.
Rabbi Fisch grew up in Tyler, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas in
Austin with a B.A. in psychology, he attended the Cincinnati campus of the Hebrew
Union College, Jewish Institute of Religion where he was ordained as a Rabbi in 1974.
He served congregations in New Orleans and in Corpus Christi from 1974-1983. In
1983, after making a career change, he earned his M.S. degree in computer science
from Corpus Christi State University. After graduation, he and his family moved to
Dallas where he worked in the I.T. industry.
Although Rabbi Fisch left the active rabbinate in 1982, he continued in Jewish
community service as a volunteer and leader of Jewish organizations. He served on the
board of Solomon Schechter (now Levine) academy during the 1980’s and ‘90s and
was chairman of the school board during his tenure there. He was on the board and
executive committee of Congregation Shearith Israel and was then a board member,
chairs of several committees, treasurer, and vice president of Jewish Family Service in
Dallas.
He officiated at High Holy Day services in Shreveport, Louisiana, Sherman, Texas, and
Sun City, Texas.
From 2011- 2016, Rabbi Fisch assumed the pulpit at Congregation Beth El Binah, a
member congregation of the Union for Reform Judaism. Beth El Binah, organized in the
1990's as an outreach to the Jewish LGBT community, now serves a diversified
population.
He and his wife Cheryl joined Adat Chaverim in 2016. During his tenure here, he wishes to continue the excellent traditions and practices of his predecessors while using his experience to develop innovative programs and practices for the congregation.
