Adult Learning

From a very early age, Jewish children are taught to use critical thinking and debating skills. It is a tradition Jews hold dear since the time Abraham debated G-d over the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. Debate is a central theme within the Talmud as rabbis and scholars have discussed their interpretations of the Torah throughout the years.  “The truth is complex. The concept of Talmudic Debate is based on the idea that one should not study alone, but rather will gain more from studying with another. The premise underlying this takes into account the multitude of voices and many commentators – over generations – that have studied and interpreted the Talmud, forming interpretations which can be both theoretical and practical.”

How perfect is it then for us to have a book club, where we can discuss, argue and review to a book. Reading is a solitary act, but there’s so much to be gained by reading and discussing together. Our book club is a chance to interact with our Adat community, as we connect with fellow bookish kindred spirits for fun, encouragement, and a more fulfilling reading experience. Therefore, we are welcoming back the Book Club to Adat Chaverim’s Adult Education programming.

Please contact Adult Education at adult.education@adatchaverim.org if you are interested in joining us.
