Adat Chaverim - "Community of Friends"

Adat Chaverim--a transliteration of the Hebrew phrase "community of friends"--is the first Reform congregation in Collin County, Texas, serving Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, and the other suburbs north and east of Dallas.

Founded in early 1997, Adat Chaverim is a rapidly growing congregation, with a varied membership ranging from singles to young families to senior members of our community. We welcome interfaith couples and families. Our size provides an intimacy in worship and social activities that is unavailable in larger congregations, as well as immediate opportunities to become involved with the congregation and its leadership at all levels.

Our Mission

We at Adat Chaverim, the Reform Congregation of Collin County, are a "Community of Friends" dedicated to:

  • Living by the enduring principles of Torah and Reform Judaism,
  • Developing relationships with God through study and communal worship,
  • Supporting individuals and families to ensure the continuity of the Jewish people,
  • Caring for each other and our community, and
  • Furthering tikkun olam, the healing of the world.
Our Synagogue

Adat Chaverim'ssynagogue is located at 6300A Independence Parkway, in Plano, Texas, on the northeast corner of Spring Creek Parkway and Independence Parkway.

The more than 27,000 square-foot facility, which opened in August 2004, includes a 300-seat sanctuary, a social hall, offices and meeting rooms. The building also features 18 classrooms for the congregation's fast-growing religious school, as well as an upstairs youth lounge that overlooks a basketball half-court on the first floor. Many of the downstairs rooms in the new building, including the rabbi's study and the sanctuary, emanate from the library, emphasizing the congregation's commitment to put Torah at the center of its spiritual life.

Spiritual Leadership - Rabbi Wendy D. Pein

Rabbi Wendy D. Pein
Adat Chaverim services are led by Rabbi Wendy D. Pein. Rabbi Pein enjoys the distinction of being the first woman to be the Head Rabbi of a Congregation in North Texas.

Her mission: to show how Judaism is relevant and meaningful to congregant's lives. Rabbi Pein reflects the Congregation's strong desire to welcome the community, to demonstrate not only growth but increased presence and assistance to that community.

Previously Rabbi Pein was the Associate Rabbi of a large congregation in Westchester New York. The Rabbi, her two daughters, husband, and entire family are excited about their move to Plano. Her door is always open to anyone who wishes to discuss religion or their search to find meaning in Judaism. She will be actively involved with the Religious School, B'nai Mitzvah and B'nai Torah Programs.

Educational Program

Adat Chaverim's Religious School, led by Director Valerie Klein with the support of many talented teachers and parent volunteers, provides a complete Judaic education program for children from pre-kindergarten through 10th grade. Beginning in 3rd grade, students start preparing for their b'nai mitzvah, including the formal study of Hebrew. For older students in 8th through 10th grade, the Confirmation program covers more advanced topics, such as Jewish Morals and Values, Judaism and the World's Religions, and the Holocaust. All classes meet at the synagogue.

As a beit midrash--a house of study--our education program does not end with children. Adat Chaverim also has an ever-expanding continuing education program, including Torah study, adult Hebrew classes, a speaker's series, informal classes, and a video discussion group.
